Metal in Egypt

byRalph Kronauer & Luca Tommasini

To the resounding sonorities of double pedals, harmonic minor scales, guitar riffs and deep growls, “Metal in Egypt“ meets nine of the best known Egyptian underground bands as they tell their story in a blunt, yet intimate way. They have been struggle for more than twenty years trying to rise above the prejudices and social verdicts, which led them to being branded no more than “satanists” or “catkillers”.

Set against the listless weeks and days before 2012’s final presidential election, “Metal in Egypt” explores the personal and intimate choices that drove, and still motivate, their passion toward Metal music, from which, making a living in Egypt has always been a hopeless dream.

They offer an inspiring insight into today’s Egyptian Metal music scene and a glimpse of what the future might hold in store.
